As the leaves change in Fall, you may notice changes to your skin as well. You can easily develop rough, dry, and itchy skin as the weather begins get colder. Eight Skincare is a high quality bath & body products line rich in natural ingredients as well as history. Available in three scents, Ginger Lime, Lavender, and Tangerine, Eight Skincare is a natural and simple solution for healthy skin. We're excited to bring you an inside look at Eight Skincare's creator, Vicki Weaver-Payne. Find out her inspiration behind the line, her go-to products and why she loves her job!

eight-vicki

What is the inspiration behind Eight Skincare? How did you get started?
My inspiration was my mother and my dry skin.  In 1944 in Oklahoma, my mother, Ida Wanda Burns—a true Rosie The Riveter type—was working in an airplane factory making airplanes safe for our brave pilots and soldiers. Never one to sit idly by, my mom started experimenting in making lotions to solve her dry skin while working in the factory. Call her tireless, lucky, determined or a combination of the three, she emerged with a lotion in which no one had ever experienced. The popularity of the lotion she created was swift, it was quickly sought after and regularly used by many of the dedicated workers at the airplane hangar. I, too, suffered with extremely dry skin. I began tirelessly perfecting her original formula, developing natural scents—along with a simple, highly effective daily skincare ritual that eliminates dry skin, helping skin look and feel it's best. And once again, mother like daughter, I want to share these truly miraculous products with all.

What is the significance behind "Eight" as the name of your line?
My Mother’s formula for The body moisture had (8) core ingredients: Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, Jojoba Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Monoi Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Argan Oil, Apricot Kernel Oil. When I first started making the lotion for retail, I would actually make it at my kitchen sink, pour it into a 4 oz. tottle bottle and sell door to door.  I started in Tulsa,  I was working with various people for marketing and a bottle of lotion landed in Neiman Marcus. They loved the lotion, but said I needed to have a full product line.  At that time I began my search for a lab and began testing other products for the body. Once my Mother’s formula was dissected by the lab, she actually was using 14 natural and essential ingredients, because some of the oils she was using were actually blends. I had already worked with an advertising firm to capture the name “eight”, and had several small retailers, so I could not change the name.

You use essential oils in all Eight Skincare products. Why did you choose this method?
Since my Mother’s body moisture was so fabulous and she had chosen specific natural and essentials for the body, I wanted to keep the integrity of her body moisture as I continued to create other products using the essentials she had used in the moisture.  In each Eight product, I try to use each of the 8 core natural and essentials. My hand crème is the exception, because I wanted to use specific naturals and essentials to target the skin on hand.

What are the main causes of dry skin?
Easy question for me, because I deal with it personally and have the opportunity to help other men and women who suffer from the same. First, genetics like mine.  I had dry skin early in my twenties. Second, hydration.  One needs to hydrate the skin in and out. Drink tons of water.  I hate this- I would rather have a Dr. Pepper any day, so I work hard to make sure I drink at least eight 8oz glasses a day.  Then, one has to get the dead skin off the body so you can hydrate from the outside. Choose a regime or a product line that will moisturize the skin. A product that will penetrate and not one that will just sit on top of the skin. Third, sun - stay away! The sun is extremely awful for the skin. Finally,  environment.  It is so interesting to see people from different areas of the United States and how where they live adversely affects the aging process. They have to work over-time to maintain the hydration and health of the skin.

What are some other benefits of Eight Skincare, besides improving dry skin?
Each natural and essential packs its’ own “punch."

  • Aloe Vera Increases Natural Skin Moisture
  • Argan Oil Rich in essential fatty acids and antioxidants (including vitamin E)
  • Monoi Oil Long Lasting Rehydration
  • Evening Primrose Oil Reduces Anti-Inflammatory
  • Vitamin E Oil Slows Aging Process
  • Jojoba Oil Promotes New Cell Growth
  • Avocado Oil Helps Anti-Wrinkle and Anti-Aging
  • Apricot Kernel Oil Improves Tones and Firms

What exactly is Dry Skin Brushing and how does it affect the body?
This process gently and effectively removes the top layer of dead skin cells and deeply cleanses the pores. Dry Skin Brushing (Dry meaning BEFORE you get into the shower - no water please!)  is one of the best ways to exfoliate the skin without removing the protective mantle of acids and oils. Used throughout history in many diverse cultures, Dry Skin Brushing has been practiced as a preventative for dry skin and a way to exfoliate the body, thus stimulating skin renewal and making it soft and supple to the touch.  Dry Skin Brushing can change the health of the whole body by helping it rid itself of toxins.

What kind of results can someone expect after experiencing the 4-step rejuvenation process?
Clean, exfoliated, hydrated and moisturized skin that will give you long lasting results! Eight Skincare is packed with multi-level moisture that last much longer than most other similar products.

Step 1: Dry Skin Body Brush Dry Skin Brushing gently and effectively removes the top layer of dead skin cells and deeply cleanses the pores.

  • Firms and Tones Skin, Removes Dead Skin Layers

Step 2: Créme Body Wash Eight Crème Body Wash is a blend of ten natural and essential ingredients formulated to cleanse and stimulate, while smoothing and moisturizing dry skin.

  • Cleanses and Stimulates Skin, Increases Skin Moisture Content, Leaves Skin Smooth - no Sticky Soap Feel

Step 3: Sugar Body Scrub Eight Sugar Body Scrub is a luxurious, sensual blend of sugar and seven essential oils to exfoliate, clean and revitalize your skin for a smooth and silky touch.

  • Exfoliates, Removes Dead Skin, Increases Skin Moisture Content, Reduces Wrinkles

Step 4: Body Moisture Eight Body Moisture is a luxurious blend of fourteen natural and essential ingredients formulated to hydrate and nourish dry skin. As a moisturizer, Eight Body Moisture is effective for dry skin, or an after-sun moisturizer, massage lotion, shaving lotion or after-shave conditioner.

  • Nourishes Dry Skin , Increases Skin Moisture Content, Reduces Wrinkles

What do you love most about your job?
I love the fact that I have taken my mother’s bottle of Body Moisture and made Eight into a full product line. There is a lot more to do and to add, but the love of my Mother makes me love my job the most.  I also love working with women and men who have dry skin. To show them instant results to their dry skin problem with my products is so much fun! Amazing sometimes! Sharing, what I think it is best treatment for dry skin, is a joy!!

Have you always been interested in beauty?
Yes, I have always been a body product “junkie." I have hoarded body product for years! I know how my skin should feel when it is hydrated. When I don’t do my 4 step rejuvenating treat for a few days, especially dry brushing, I know instantly I have to get back to my regime.

What are your top 3 skincare tips?
1. Stay out of the sun
2. Hydrate within and without
3. Realize why you have dry skin – wether a result of genetics or environment – and treat accordingly!
